Island Health offers a comprehensive set of benefits that may vary depending on collective agreement and employment status. For employees who have earned adequately paid sick leave credits, short-term sick leave benefits are provided if they are unable to work due to injury or illness. Regular employees are entitled to benefits paid by the employer after meeting the eligibility requirements. Unionized workers can consult their collective agreement for more information. Employees are acquired after two years of contributions to the plan. Leave without pay for humanitarian and compassionate reasons may be granted in the care of a terminally ill family member (in accordance with the Employment Standards Act). Leave is granted in accordance with the collective agreement and legislation. An Additional Employment Benefit or Supplement (SEB) may be paid to eligible employees.
